History Of Dobarsko
Dobarsko is a village in southwestern Bulgaria, part of Razlog municipality. It is set at 1,070 m above sea level on the southern slopes of Rila with the westernmost Rhodope Mountains to the east and Pirin to the south near the valley of the Mesta River. According to the legend, Dobarsko was founded by soldiers from Bulgarian tsar Samuil’s blinded army after the Battle of Belasitsa in 1014, who arrived in the area en route to the Rila Monastery and discovered a holy spring that allegedly cured them. Dobarsko is known for its 25-metre waterfall, Shtrokaloto, its two old Eastern Orthodox churchesand the many consecrated grounds and chapels in the area, as well asthe view of three of Bulgaria’s highest and largest mountains from the village. The old time church ofSt St Theodor of Tyron andTheodore Stratelates(1614) withthe curative ayazmo (spring) inthe courtyard, has remarkable icons from 1614 and mural paintings from 1672, featuring the famous biblical scene of“The Transfiguration of Christ interpreted at a later date as Christ in a spaceship.The Church of Stretenie Gospodne ( the Presentation in the Temple) has an original wood-carved iconostasis, made in the style of Bansko School of Art. There are eight sites for sacrificial offerings in the region of the village, situated at about half on hour`s walk one from the other. Traditional local dishes are served in the village, cooked out of ecological products; various entertainments are also offered: mushroom and herbs picking, fishing of mountain trout in three mountainbrooks, outings on horseback, familiarization with theauthentic folklore of the region.
